Riley Melton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Landon Hall was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Perkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Red Bird's offense. They lost 15-0 to Jenkins on Tuesday.
