The Paxton Bobcats proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 21) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Bethlehem out 37-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Paxton has posted yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Paxton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trevor Varnum, who scored 12 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Varnum has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Stewart, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
The win (which was Paxton's third in a row) raised their record to 13-4. As for Bethlehem, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paxton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Florida Baptist Academy at 7:15 p.m. on January 19th. West Florida Baptist Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 500th, while Paxton is ranked 202nd). As for Bethlehem, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Altha at 7:00 p.m. on January 20th. Altha is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
