Baseball Game Preview: Riverside Generals vs. Westside Wolverines

For the first time this season, Riverside will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to face off against the Westside Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside will be strutting in after a victory while Westside will be coming in after a loss.

Riverside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Raines on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Generals considering their one-run performance the game before.

Rylan Covington made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Covington was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenton Scott, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Justin Rue was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Raines only posted an OBP of .400.

Westside couldn't beat Cedar Creek Christian on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Wolverines lost 16-7 to the Saints. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Saints: they've now lost three in a row.

Riverside's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything went Riverside's way against Westside in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Riverside made off with a 16-10 victory. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
