Williamson and North Rose-Wolcott are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Marauders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Williamson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Williamson and Sodus had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Marauders took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Marauders couldn't push the score so high this time.
David DeFisher put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. DeFisher was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Caiden Watson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when North Rose-Wolcott challenged Geneva on Friday. The Cougars fell 10-5 to the Panthers. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Elliot Bush and Cody Crane stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bush went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Crane went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tommy Mills, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Williamson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for North Rose-Wolcott, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
North Rose-Wolcott's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Williamson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. It's a different story for North Rose-Wolcott, though, as they've only averaged .341. Will they be able to contain Williamson's hitters?
Williamson was able to grind out a solid win over North Rose-Wolcott in their previous matchup back in April, winning 7-4. Do the Marauders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
