The Olathe East Hawks fell just short of the Lawrence Free State Firebirds by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Olathe East wouldn't go down easily and took Lawrence Free State into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 15-7.
When it comes to explaining why Olathe East lost, don't look at Kate Wright. Despite the final result, she had 22 digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Malasy Sakounlaphoum, who had 12 digs.
Lawrence Free State was led to victory by Karsen Chapman and Lilly Wall. Chapman had 31 digs, while Wall had seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Wall has posted since back in September of 2023.
Olathe East's defeat dropped their record down to 11-20. As for Lawrence Free State, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-17.
Olathe East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Blue Valley Southwest on the 22nd. Lawrence Free State does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
