After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chester, the Ware Shoals Hornets were happy to have found some success on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 win over Whitmire. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Ware Shoals has posted yet this season.
Ware Shoals got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jace Stewart out in front who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stewart has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Isiah Wardlaw, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The victory got Ware Shoals back to even at 5-5. As for Whitmire, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ware Shoals will face off against Calhoun Falls Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Calhoun Falls Charter is ranked 213th, while Ware Shoals is ranked 238th). Whitmire's road trip will continue as they head out to face Dixie at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. Dixie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Whitmire likes a good challenge.
