If the South Effingham Mustangs were riding high off their 54-28 takedown of the Evans Knights last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. South Effingham fell 55-44 to the Panthers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Panthers are ranked 94th).
When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elena Hairston. Despite the final result, she scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Hayden Johanson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
South Effingham has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for Lakeside, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.
