The Haines City Hornets were the 61-42 winner over the Viera Hawks when they last played one another back in December of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. Haines City's rough 67-44 defeat to Viera on Wednesday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Haines City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 621st, while Viera is ranked 144th).
Despite the loss, Haines City still got an impressive performance from Jorge Ramirez, who scored 24 points. The matchup was Ramirez's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Patterson, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Haines City and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Viera, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
Haines City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bayshore Christian at 9:00 a.m. on December 28th. Viera won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Plant City at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Plant City knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Viera likes a good challenge.
