The Canon City Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Coronado Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canon City has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 8.
Last Thursday, Canon City lost to the Terrors on the road by a decisive 65-47 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Canon City in their matchups with the Terrors: they've now lost seven in a row.
Even though Coronado has not done well against the Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Coronado pulled ahead with a 52-51 photo finish over the Panthers. The win was just what Coronado needed coming off of a 73-35 defeat in their prior matchup.
Coronado got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Realiti Smith out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Lyrik Smith was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Canon City has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Coronado, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Canon City came up short against the Cougars in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 59-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Coronado's Seth Enoch, who scored 25 points along with four steals.
