The Smithfield Packers will square off against the Warhill Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Smithfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Smithfield made easy work of Bruton and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Packers.
Kayla Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Easton Saunders, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Grace Dodson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Warhill was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Jamestown, falling 12-2.
Warhill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annabelle Hall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Smithfield's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Warhill, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.
Warhill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Smithfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Warhill, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Smithfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Lions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Smithfield got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Warhill by a conclusive 16-6 score. Will the Packers repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
