The Parkersburg South Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Hurricane Redskins at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Parkersburg South comes in on five and Hurricane on eight.
Parkersburg South had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt John Marshall on Thursday. The Patriots never let the Monarchs get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Anniston Shelton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Payton Mackey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Kuhl, who earned two runs and one stolen base.
Hurricane came out on top against South Charleston on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Redskins put the hurt on the Black Eagles with a sharp 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
South Charleston's batters probably weren't too happy with Kate Justice, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up zero walks).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaden Jones, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Alexander Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Parkersburg South pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Hurricane, their record now sits at 15-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Parkersburg South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hurricane struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Parkersburg South couldn't quite get it done against Hurricane in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
