Living Word Lutheran hasn't had much luck against Lake Country Lutheran recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Timberwolves will venture away from home to challenge the Lightning at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Living Word Lutheran put up the most runs they have all season on Saturday. They put the hurt on Cudahy with a sharp 22-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Timberwolves.
Charity Mahlstedt was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava Paape, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lake Country Lutheran and Milwaukee Lutheran, and Lake Country Lutheran kept the tradition alive. The Lightning's pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Knights a 21-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, the Lightning brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Ava Budnik was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lake Country Lutheran let Katelyn Meulendyke and Eden Mueller run wild. Meulendyke got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Mueller got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Meulendyke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierstyn Black, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Lake Country Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lake Country Lutheran's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-9. As for Living Word Lutheran, their record now sits at 2-9.
Living Word Lutheran suffered a grim 21-6 defeat to Lake Country Lutheran when the teams last played back in April. Can the Timberwolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
