Volleyball Game Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. Carlsbad Lancers

The Torrey Pines Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Carlsbad Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Torrey Pines has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Torrey Pines extended their road winning streak to seven games thanks to a huge performance from Griffin Dieter. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Redondo Union 2-1 with plenty of help from Dieter, who had 26 digs. He has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last four times he's played.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Torrey Pines got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 15-12.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad had already won 12 in a row and they went ahead and made it 13 on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Falcons.

Carlsbad walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17.

Carlsbad's victory bumped their record up to 28-2. As for Torrey Pines, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Torrey Pines has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Torrey Pines came up short against Carlsbad in their previous meeting on Thursday, falling 3-1. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
