It was a good run, but the Englewood Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bennett. While losing is never fun, Englewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Bennett is ranked 131st).
Englewood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jonae Harris, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Jaliyah Mora was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Bennett was led to victory by Lily Venneberg and Jessica Venneberg. Venneberg scored 16 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Venneberg dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Venneberg is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mya Robledo, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Englewood's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-9. As for Bennett, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Englewood will head out on the road to challenge The Pinnacle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bennett, they will be playing at home against Bruce Randolph at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
