The Hemphill Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Huntington Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Hemphill pushed their score all the way to 63 last Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to Diboll. That's two games in a row now that Hemphill has lost by exactly a single point.
Meanwhile, Huntington's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-26 walloping at the hands of Pollok Central. While losing is never fun, Huntington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1275th, while Pollok Central is ranked 423rd).
This is the second loss in a row for Hemphill and nudges their season record down to 8-8. As for Huntington, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-19.
Hemphill didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Huntington in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 48-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hemphill since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
