Owen has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Avery County Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Owen has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 356 points over their last five matchups.
Owen proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 39) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against NCSSM: Morganton and snuck past 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Owen found their leader in underclassman Asante Martin, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Jack Wesley Burk was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Avery County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 78-52 walloping at the hands of Mountain Heritage. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Avery County has suffered since December 5, 2023.
Owen's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Avery County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Things could have been worse for Owen, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-44 loss to Avery County when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Owen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
