Canutillo is a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Silver Foxes at 6:30 p.m. Canutillo will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.
On Friday, Canutillo earned an 8-3 victory over Chapin.
Canutillo got a great performance from Julian Esparza as he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Esparza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emilio Melendez and Landon Flores did most of the damage at the plate: Melendez went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Flores went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Diezel Blanco, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Jefferson got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They won by a run and slipped past El Paso 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Silver Foxes have posted since April 11, 2025.
Joseph Quintanar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He has become a key player for Jefferson: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-13 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dario Baez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Eden Perez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Jefferson's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Canutillo, their win bumped their record up to 17-8-1.
Jefferson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Canutillo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. It's a different story for Jefferson, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Canutillo's hitters?
Everything went Canutillo's way against Jefferson when the teams last played back in March, as Canutillo made off with an 18-4 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Silver Foxes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
