The Eastern Wayne Warriors had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They secured a 67-62 W over Northside - Jacksonville. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Eastern Wayne was led to victory by Zavion Burden and Charlie Thomas. Burden scored 20 points, while Thomas scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Tann, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Northside - Jacksonville had strong showings from Talan Evans, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Xavier Ritter, who scored 19 points along with seven assists. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Durice Adamson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four blocks and three steals.
Even though they lost, Northside - Jacksonville were working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The victory got Eastern Wayne back to even at 6-6. As for Northside - Jacksonville, they bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Wayne will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Wayne Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Northside - Jacksonville, they will face off against J.H. Rose at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully J.H. Rose focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday.
