The Jasper Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the West Orange-Stark Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Jasper got themselves on the board against Bridge City, but Bridge City never followed suit. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for Jasper, who have now won three matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
Zykeelan Hadnot went supernova for Jasper, rushing for 199 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Hadnot's longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards. Jacovian Adams also helped out as he racked up 161 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, West Orange-Stark didn't have too much trouble with Bridge City on the road on Friday as they won 28-14. Given West Orange-Stark's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Bridge City is ranked 491st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcus Turner was the offensive standout of the match as he threw for 95 yards and three touchdowns.
Jasper now has a winning record of 4-3. As for West Orange-Stark, their victory on Friday bumped their record up to 4-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Jasper has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 221.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like West Orange-Stark struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Jasper took their victory against West Orange-Stark in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 34-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jasper since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
