The Carlsbad Lancers will face off against the Westview Wolverines at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Carlsbad: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Westview has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Carlsbad and Rancho Buena Vista meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Lancers lost 10-2 to the Longhorns. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lancers have suffered since March 5th.
Chloe Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Westview got themselves on the board against Escondido on Wednesday, but Escondido never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Sierra Wallace made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Peake, who went 3-for-4 with eight RBI, two triples, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sarah Deng was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.
Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are undefeated (9-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Westview is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Carlsbad, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Carlsbad couldn't quite get it done against Westview in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 5-2. Will the Lancers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
