Lakeside extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 3-10. They came up short against the Geneva Eagles, falling 17-2. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 17-13 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Lakeside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jeremy Murphy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Geneva, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Geneva's side, Ryland Besco and Bryce Junker were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Besco struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Junker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Geneva is undefeated when Junker allows two or fewer hits, but 4-8 otherwise. At the plate, Besco went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Junker went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Besco is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Nate Hutchens was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sabin, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
While Lakeside had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
