Basketball Recap: Arizona College Prep Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chaparral

After flying high against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy back in December of 2024, Arizona College Prep came back down to earth. The Arizona College Prep Knights took an 85-80 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chaparral Firebirds. One positive for the Knights, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Asher Perez, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 23 points and eight assists. That's the most assists Perez has posted since back in February of 2024. Dom Berumen was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five steals.

Arizona College Prep has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Chaparral, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-10.

Arizona College Prep and Chaparral could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Arizona College Prep (ranked 116th) will meet Ironwood (ranked 14th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Chaparral (ranked 141st) will meet Notre Dame Prep (ranked ninth) at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
