Even though the Burke Bulldogs scored an imposing 65 points on Wednesday, the Benson Bunnies still came out on top. Benson managed a 70-65 win over Burke. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Benson.
Benson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dominik Rice out in front who scored 23 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Rice continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Goanar Bamach, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Burke lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nate Vereen-burton. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Buchanan, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Benson has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for Burke, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benson will square off against Lincoln North Star at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Averaging 63.6 so far this season, Lincoln North Star's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Benson better be ready for a challenge. As for Burke, Burke and Omaha South will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Omaha South has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9.
