Old Orchard Beach has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Orono Riots at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Old Orchard Beach's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Old Orchard Beach had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They claimed a resounding 56-8 win over Maranacook at home. Fans of Old Orchard Beach have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Meanwhile, Orono faced Stearns/Schenck in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Orono strolled past Stearns/Schenck with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 58-40. The win was just business as usual for Orono, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Orono's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Brewer, who threw for 289 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also punched in a rushing score. Brewer has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last ten times he's played. William Francis was another key contributor, picking up 212 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Old Orchard Beach pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Orono, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
