The Northwestern Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Cochranton Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Northwestern had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt North East on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Grape Pickers with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Wildcats not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 18-7).

Joe Schaukowitsch made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Northwestern got a massive performance out of Trysten Lear, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Lear is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-12 when he doesn't). Zac Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Northwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cochranton came out on top against Cambridge Springs on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Devils.
Andrew Albert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tim Deeter, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Gavin Moore also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Northwestern's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 5-12. As for Cochranton, their record is now 6-10.
