Basketball Game Preview: Crawfordsville Athenians vs. Frankfort Hot Dogs

The Crawfordsville Athenians will head out on the road to face off against the Frankfort Hot Dogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Crawfordsville is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Southmont just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 56-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mounties.

Crawfordsville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mason McCarty, who posted 20 points, and Alec Saidian, who had eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points gave McCarty a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Frankfort can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against Clinton Central by a score of 56-49.

Frankfort found their leader in sophomore Charlie Beardsley, who put up 13 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Beardsley. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Michael, who earned 14 points.

Crawfordsville's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Frankfort, their victory ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-14.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Crawfordsville has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Crawfordsville came up short against Frankfort when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 61-49. Thankfully for Crawfordsville, Kye Kirby (who went 9 for 15 on his way to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time.
