Basketball Recap: Flowing Wells Falls Despite Big Games from Renee Sotelo and Allison Verdugo

Flowing Wells suffered their biggest defeat since November 26, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against the Catalina Foothills Falcons, falling 53-31. The Caballeros were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-7.

Flowing Wells' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Allison Verdugo, who posted ten points and five rebounds, and Renee Sotelo, who earned eight points. The dominant performance gave Sotelo a new career-high in points.

Catalina Foothills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clara Mae Hager led the charge by going 7 of 12 en route to 19 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hager has scored at least a third of Catalina Foothills' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayanna Chief, who scored ten points and seven boards.

Flowing Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Catalina Foothills, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
