Cocoa had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They snuck past the Merritt Island Mustangs with a 30-24 victory on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won nine games in a row dating back to last season.
Cocoa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Troy Silberzahn led the charge by punching in two rushing scores, while also picking up 41 receiving yards and one score. Jamal Smith did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 103 receiving yards.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alain Adams, who rushed for 72 yards and one TD.
