The Red Cloud Warriors were the 53-40 winner over the Deshler Dragons when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Red Cloud took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons on Saturday. Red Cloud has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Red Cloud saw an underclassman step up: Wyatt Frey scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Frey hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Gage Ely was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight assists.
Even though they lost, Red Cloud were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deshler only racked up five assists.
Deshler's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Nash, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Kaden Kleen, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Red Cloud now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Deshler, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Red Cloud will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Kenesaw is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Deshler, they will head out on the road to challenge the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
