Softball Game Preview: Delcambre Panthers vs. Abbeville Wildcats

Delcambre is a perfect 4-0 against Abbeville since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It was a proper cat-fight when Delcambre faced off against Jeanerette on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Panthers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Allie Mayard was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addilynn Frederick, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelum Sonnier, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, while Abbeville put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Oberlin. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Delcambre's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Abbeville, their record is now 7-11.

Everything went Delcambre's way against Abbeville in their previous matchup back in March, as Delcambre made off with a 7-1 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
