The Lemon Bay Manta Rays's five-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They managed a 55-51 victory over Venice. The victory was just what Lemon Bay needed coming off of a 70-46 defeat in their prior match.
Lemon Bay can attribute much of their success to Cooper Benedict, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Gambrell, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Venice lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chad Fleming, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fleming has scored all season. Zeke Settles was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Lemon Bay's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Venice, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Lemon Bay won't have much time to rest: their next match is against LaBelle at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Venice, they will be playing at home against Sarasota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sarasota is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
