Durant has gone 8-2 against Newsome recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Durant will be playing at home against Newsome at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Durant will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Wednesday, then bounced right back against Brandon on Tuesday. Durant blew past Brandon 13-2. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Zach Nero looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brady Kelley and Brantley Hayward did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Hayward went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tanner Gonser, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Durant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Newsome waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Spartans as they made off with a 7-1 win.
AIDEN DOLAN tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on ANTHONY DEVITO, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of ALEC CHIN, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Newsome pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Durant, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Durant has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Newsome struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Durant took their win against Newsome when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-1. Does Durant have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newsome turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
