This season hasn't been kind to Masterman, who are still winless after their fifth match. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 63-41 walloping at the hands of Thomas A. Edison on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Masterman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 721st, while Thomas A. Edison is ranked 288th).
When it comes to explaining why Masterman lost, one person who can't be blamed is Yuji Harrington. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Harrington's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Charlie Adams was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Thomas A. Edison's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quinzel Merritt, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Roberts, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists.
Masterman bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Thomas A. Edison, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Masterman will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Science Leadership Academy at 3:15 p.m. on December 28th. Thomas A. Edison will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against William Allen at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. William Allen is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
