The South Iredell Vikings will face off against the Cox Mill Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Iredell will be strutting in after a victory while Cox Mill will be coming in after a loss.
South Iredell will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Mooresville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Blue Devils on Thursday, sneaking past 8-7.
Gavin Melvin looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Eli Beekley and Reid Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Beekley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Johnson went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Miles, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Cox Mill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Charlotte Latin.
Cox Mill also got a good showing from Jacob McCarter, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Tyler McBee was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
South Iredell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Cox Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.
South Iredell skirted past Cox Mill 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
