Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lago Vista). Everything went their way against the Travis Rebels on Saturday as the Lago Vista Vikings made off with a 24-0 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Winter Callahan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brynlea Cox and Sydney Mosser did most of the damage at the plate: Cox went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI, while Mosser scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave Cox a new career-high in runs. Ellie Helton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Lago Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 14.4.
The victory (which was Lago Vista's seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Travis, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lago Vista will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Manor New Tech at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. Travis also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against LBJ Austin at 6:00 p.m. on March 28th.
