After a string of three wins, the Gloucester City Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Millville. Gloucester City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Millville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2015.
Despite the defeat, Gloucester City saw an underclassman step up: Keegan Cohan scored 15 points. Cohan also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Michael Light, who scored nine points.
Gloucester City struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gloucester City's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Millville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Gloucester City will finish 2023 at home by hosting Gloucester County Tech at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gloucester County Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while Gloucester City is ranked 81st). Millville is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Egg Harbor Township at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
