After only two runs in their last matchup, Lamar made sure to put some runs up on the board against Leake Academy on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 11-1 win. Jackson Whitcomb made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Whitcomb was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ty Wiggins was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Sullivan Reed was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leake Academy only posted an OBP of .333.
Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That lines up perfectly with their 17-5-2 record this season. As for Leake Academy, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-5.
Lamar will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rebels: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
