Jordan Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last four contests.
At the plate, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luke Wyrick, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Wyrick a new career-high. Aaron Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, King lost a heartbreaker to Carroll when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. King fell just short of Carroll by a score of 5-4. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Marco Barrera was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Grant Hoogland was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-6. King is 3-1 when Hoogland posts two or more runs, but 1-8-1 otherwise.
King's loss dropped their record down to 4-9-1. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 10-2-1.
