The Western Tech & Environmental Science Wolverines and the Sparrows Point Pointers, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Western Tech & Environmental Science is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Western Tech & Environmental Science took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Catonsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines came out on top in a nail-biter against the Comets last Tuesday, sneaking past 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Ella Durham was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Durham was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Camacho, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Averie Talley, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four contests, Sparrows Point finally came back down to earth last Monday. They lost 13-2 to Towson. The matchup marked the Pointers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Western Tech & Environmental Science now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Sparrows Point, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western Tech & Environmental Science hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Sparrows Point struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Tech & Environmental Science might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Sparrows Point in their previous matchup back in April of 2017. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
