The Lamar Tigers will face off against the Purdy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Lamar took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Diamond, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers skirted past the Wildcats 11-9. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly two runs.
Lexy Stephen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off five hits. Stephen was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maylee Rawlings, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Kelby Wolf was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Lamar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Diamond only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Purdy came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lamar's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-4. As for Purdy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Lamar came out on top in a nail-biter against Purdy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
