The Excel Panthers managed to keep up with the Flomaton Hurricanes until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Excel ended up on the wrong side of a rough 48-27 walloping at the hands of Flomaton. Excel has struggled against Flomaton recently, as their matchup on Monday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Flomaton found their leader in underclassman Jacie Himes, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Himes has scored at least a third of Flomaton's points.
Excel's loss was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.1 points per game. As for Flomaton, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-13.
Excel on the road again on Tuesday and play against Monroe County at 5:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Monroe County will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak. As for Flomaton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cottage Hill Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. Cottage Hill Christian Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
