After flying high against the Johns Creek Gladiators last Friday, The Pope Greyhounds came back down to earth. Pope was the victim of a rough 45-21 defeat at the hands of Sprayberry on Friday. Pope was down 35-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Pope still got an impressive performance from John Stuetzer, who picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Stuetzer was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 64 yards. Alex Tushabe also helped out as he racked up 135 receiving yards.
Sprayberry found their leader in underclassman Jaden Duckett, who rushed for 177 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrius Brown, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Pope's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Sprayberry, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-4.
Pope does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sprayberry will head out on the road to face off against Rome at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rome is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
