The Gibson Southern Titans waltzed into their match on Tuesday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They slipped by Evansville North 44-43. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Gibson Southern has scored all year.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gibson Southern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Paige Schnaus, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloey Graham, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Evansville North lost, one person who can't be blamed is Vanessa Nankwenya. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nankwenya has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Libby Blythe, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Gibson Southern is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Evansville North, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9.
Gibson Southern will take on Evansville Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Evansville Mater Dei will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Gibson Southern is ranked 21st). As for Evansville North, they will play host again and welcome Bloomington South, where tip off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
