Terra Nova hasn't had much luck against Notre Dame recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Menlo-Atherton hit Terra Nova with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell just short of the Bears by a score of 13-12.
Aubrey Bailey and Layla Tassio stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bailey went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Tassio went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Tassio has hit this season. Emma Bailey was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Mills by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Allison Lui was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Notre Dame's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-4-1. As for Terra Nova, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Terra Nova hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
