The Mesa Verde Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Rio Linda, falling 66-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Mesa Verde has suffered since December 28, 2023.
Mesa Verde's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roman Weddle, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weddle has scored all season. Jeremiah Dauphine was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Linda to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jarai Gray, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Gray also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Williams, who scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Mesa Verde's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Rio Linda, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-14.
Mesa Verde will head out on the road to face off against Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodland is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Rio Linda, they will be playing at home against Dixon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
