Sierra Lutheran hasn't had much luck against Yerington recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Falcons will square off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m.
Sierra Lutheran is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pershing County.
Sierra Lutheran saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Ricks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, Yerington came tearing into Saturday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Longhorns. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Alexis Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Colby Rowe was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Toby Juarez, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Yerington pushed their record up to 22-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sierra Lutheran has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yerington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sierra Lutheran might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Yerington in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
