The Bloomfield Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 12th straight loss. They took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clay City. Bloomfield was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Clay City apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
It was another big night for Lulu Koehler, who scored 23 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Clay City. Koehler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Kirkling, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Bloomfield's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-18. As for Clay City, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bloomfield will take on Linton-Stockton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Linton-Stockton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bloomfield in Indiana (Linton-Stockton is ranked 84th, while Bloomfield is ranked 364th). As for Clay City, they will head out on the road to face off against South Vermillion at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Vermillion comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last 18 games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
