The Lytle Pirates will square off against the Incarnate Word Shamrocks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lytle has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lytle's tournament run continued when they took on Blanco on Saturday. The Pirates came up short against the Panthers, falling 15-7. The Pirates have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Avary Hernandez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Danielle Rangel, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Incarnate Word posted their closest victory since February 12th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over Lockhart.
Incarnate Word got a massive performance out of Pia Laguna, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Bella Rivas was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Incarnate Word was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Incarnate Word's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Lytle, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lytle has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Incarnate Word struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lytle might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Incarnate Word in their previous meeting back in February of 2016. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
