Wauneta-Palisade has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Paxton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Wauneta-Palisade focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Wauneta-Palisade, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-37 loss to Perkins County.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Peyton Cox, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 35.1% of Wauneta-Palisade's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Parrish, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
After soaring to a 22-point victory in their last game, Paxton came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell just short of Hitchcock County by a score of 37-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Paxton has suffered yet this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ella Fote, who scored 14 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that she posted two or more blocks. Jacelyn Jorgensen was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Wauneta-Palisade now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Paxton, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wauneta-Palisade have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Paxton, though, as they've been averaging only 26.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
