Football Recap: Purchase Line Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Purchase Line was not quite United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United]'s equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 41-22 bruising from United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United]. The Red Dragons have struggled against United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Purchase Line lost, don't look at Victor Bartlebaugh. Despite the final result, he rushed for 201 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Bartlebaugh's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United]'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Szymusiak led the charge by rushing for 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Szymusiak didn't just play on offense: he also picked up 2.5 sacks and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Shaydon Oleksa, who rushed for 115 yards and two scores on only 12 carries.

Purchase Line's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United], they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Purchase Line will challenge Bishop Guilfoyle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Marauders' defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so the Red Dragons' offense will have their work cut out for them.
